Robert Filek is a senior managing director in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice and is based in Chicago. Mr. Filek is the global leader of the Transaction Advisory Services Solutions group. He has more than 24 years of experience and has been involved in some of the most complicated acquisitions, divestitures and joint venture transactions in recent history, advising in both the private equity and corporate arenas.
Experience
Mr. Filek has expertise in strategic evaluation; financial and accounting due diligence; transaction structuring; working capital adjustments; complex accounting matters; merger integration and performance improvement. His deal experience includes advising on more than 300 transactions globally, representing buyers, sellers and lenders.
Mr. Filek has extensive industry experience in consumer products and retail. Through his work on acquisitions and integrations, he has significant knowledge of trade promotions, supply chain, cost accounting and product portfolio strategies. In the industrial space, Mr. Filek has worked in the aerospace and automotive sectors, managing transactions in the defense industry and for tier one auto suppliers. His healthcare experience focuses on pharmaceutical and medical product companies, as well as specialized health services.
Some of Mr. Filek’s transactions include Burnham’s acquisition of Corporate Express, which was voted best transaction by Business Week in 2000; Whirlpool’s acquisition of Maytag, one of the most studied anti-trust transactions in recent times; and Kraft’s hostile cross border acquisition of Cadbury. Other notable transactions he has advised on include the attempted privatization of Chicago’s Midway Airport; Oaktree Capital Management’s consolidation in the processed meat industry; the securitization related to the Dunkin Donuts’ leveraged buyout and GTCR’s carve out of 3M’s pharmaceutical business and a medical products business from Johnson & Johnson.
Widely recognized, Mr. Filek has appeared as a repeat guest on CNBC and Bloomberg Television as well as Fox News. Mr. Filek has also participated in numerous speaking engagements and has been quoted in leading wire services and publications on corporate finance.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Filek was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he served in numerous roles, including as an audit partner, multinational Transaction Services leader, the National Assurance growth leader, and the retail and consumer leader for Transaction Services.
